Boston's largest A Cappella showdown For High School groups

Congratulations to the winners of

GRAND PRIZE: The Lexington Pitchpipes
2nd Place: The Boston Latin Wolftones
3rd Place: Lincoln-Sudbury Accent A Cappella

Lexington High Pitchpipes Take 1st Prize in High School A Cappella Armageddon.

Bristol Studios' a cappella competition on Sunday afternoon was a series of firsts. First time outside of Boston, first impromptu beatbox jam session, and first High School group to take home the grand prize.

Taking place at Mariam High School in Framingham, the 1st year of the High School A Cappella Armageddon competition featured six finalists from high schools in the Boston metro area. It was a male dominated field with the Weston High Town Criers, Boston Latin Wolftones, and the Lexington High Pitchpipes sporting all male groups. The largest group featuring nearly twenty vocalists was the all female Nazareth Academy Trinity Singers and rounding out the rest of the field were the Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High Accent A Cappella and the Amesbury High Rhythmics.

Each group performed three songs as the judges focused on measuring groups on their vocal and visual ability as well as crowd response. The groups competed for studio time and the chance to create their own album. After many inspired performances the judges tallied their scores and our MC, Patrice Peris, announced the grand champion as the Lexington High Pitchpipes who had captivated the crowd with their Mumford and Sons Medley. Second place went to the Boston Latin Wolftones, as they got the crowd grooving to R. Kelley's "Ignition." Third place went to the Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High Accent A Cappella who brought their brand of excitement with Fun's "Some Nights."

In addition to the competition there was a performance by Bristol's own Dakota O'Driscoll, who sang selections from her latest CD. The judges were impressed with all of the groups and Bristol Studios is already looking forward to next year's competition. We will be posting videos from all of the groups soon, so stay tuned!
